Temporomandibular joint disorder
- is a relative term related to acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, commenly referred to as TMJ, which connects the mandible to the skull. The disorder and dysfunction can result in significant pain and impairment of normal functions one may have in day to day uses. Because the disorder has many boundaries between several health-care disciplines—in particular, dentistry and neurology—there are a variety of treatment approaches.
